After 15 years as a lawyer, I am now a writer and teacher. Working with young people has reinforced for me how important it is for creativity to be encouraged without fear of criticism. Creativity is, after all, something inherent in all of us. Regrettably, we have created an education system that places less and less focus upon it... and yet it is the one thing future societies will require above all else as the legacy handed to them becomes increasingly more complex generation by generation. My work now is primarily to develop creativity and confidence in young people, through music, writing and art.
My crime and horror writing is something I have done since I was a kid. It attracted criticism back then and still attracts criticism now. The resilience required to continue helps me in teaching others how to believe in themselves and what they attempt. I self-publish because I do not write for the money or the joy of having a publisher pay people to say nice things about me. I self-publish because I believe everyone should be in charge of their own creativity, and listen only to the genuine critique of those receiving it, as opposed to those seeking to profit from it. I still maintain my links with UK law enforcement and the criminal justice system, so as to ensure all my writing retains realism and procedural accuracy.
